Fatality and Injuries in Early Morning Crash in Ormond Beach

The driver of a semi-truck traveling north on US 1 in Ormond Beach was killed on December 7, 2015 at approximately 6:23 a.m. The driver exited the semi and fell out on the road as it was moving and was run over by his own vehicle.

According to Florida Highway Patrol the semi then continued to travel into the southbound lanes without a driver and collided head-on into a Chevrolet.

Trooper Kim Montes said the driver of the Chevrolet, Roberto Jaimes, 28 and the passengr, his mother-in-law, Rosalva Rivaz Rangel, 48 sustained serious injuries and were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center.

It has not been determined why the semi driver fell out of the truck.

U.S. 1 was closed in both directions.

The driver is from Miami Gardens name not being released.
